Single platform. Multiple biometrics. Omnichannel delivery.

Whichever channels your customers choose to engage with you, a BIDaaS platform provides a consistent biometric authentication experience in the context of both branding and security, across any connected channel, that is completely independent of the device.

What is a BIDaaS platform?

Biometric Identity as-a-Service (BIDaaS) is a cloud-based authentication model where a user’s template (voice, face or behaviour) is pseudonymised and stored in the cloud in the form of an alphanumeric construct. Any future requests to authenticate are similarly pseudonymised, and the new construct compared against the original. A real-time, risk-based assessment that the user is who they say they are is returned to you.

How is BIDaaS different from other authentication platforms?

Most of today’s biometric authentication mechanisms relate only to the user’s device. Location, permanent device identity, encrypted messaging and secure enclaves are just some of the security features of on-device biometrics, however the simple fact remains that humans are not their smartphones. Authenticating a device is not the same as authenticating an individual.

What's wrong with device-based authentication?

“It is increasingly clear that our now indispensable smartphones – which we may view as extensions of ourselves –  are nothing more than glorified tokens.” Acuity MI, 2017

The fundamental flaw is this. On-device biometrics alongside location, device ID, one-time passwords or other security measures authenticate the device, not the person.

The device is given the identity, not the individual.

All that has actually happened is that multiple additional security layers have been integrated to the device, giving rise to an increasing requirement of IT professionals to manage this, whilst still lacking any genuine authentication of the individual’s identity.

There are of course other flaws:

  • An individual’s identity is not portable across channels, it is linked to a single device
  • There is no centralised identity that can be used for authentication across multiple channels; device, desktop, physical, wearables
  • There is no way of ‘backing up’ an individual’s profile, in case of device loss
  • There is no way of detecting individuals enrolling with multiple identities; a common indicator of account fraud

Single channel enrolment; omnichannel authentication

The benefits of an omnichannel authentication experience impact a business – and the customer – from the very beginning:

expand all
  • Example: Facial authentication

Enrol for facial authentication using a smartphone or pre-enrol with existing images, roll out facial authentication across any channel with a camera, such as a desktop, tablet, POS or CCTV.

  • Example: Voice authentication

Pre-enrol a customer for voice authentication using existing voice data, enable voice authentication across any channel using a microphone: helpline password bypass, physical entry system, mobile app access, web programme in-session authentication and more.

  • Example: Behaviour authentication

Roll out behavioural data capture in your web or mobile app using our APIs, enable capture across any device with a physical interface – touchpad, keypad, keyboard, mouse or screen – and build a richer profile of a user over time.

  • Example: Fraud detection

Integrate AimBehaviour’s AimAnomaly Detection module to start measuring in-session behaviour on one device and continue to monitor across any channel connected to the user. Spot the subtle indicators across all channels and devices that could signify deception; ad fraud, claims fraud, identity fraud and beyond.

What are the benefits of biometric authentication in the cloud?

Device-independent
Digital identity stored away from device to minimise frustration if lost or damaged

Data protection
Identities stored as mathematical constructs using revocable templates; data is rendered useless in the event of a suspected breach

Supports compliance
Raw biometric data is captured within the enterprise’s infrastructure and converted/deleted as it hits the AimBrain wall and is pseudonymised

Consistent authentication experience
Provides the customer with omnichannel consistency of the authentication experience; end the discombobulated approach to passwords, PINs and security

Platform for tomorrow
Provides the platform to easily integrate new biometric modules, for the biometric requirements of tomorrow

Instant upgrades & updates
Benefit from instantaneous feature, security and algorithm updates in real-time; no scheduling or downtime required

Lower TCO
SaaS model minimises architectural and engineering costs, and biometric authentication reduces OTP costs by up to 90%

Evolve to fight fraud
Immediately benefit from new anti-spoof and liveliness detection technology features in the fight against the many forms of fraud, both that known today and the unseen of tomorrow

No barriers to success
Open-source APIs allow for immediate impact; test the solution in a sandbox environment as soon as the APIs are integrated; switch to live mode once you’re ready

Eradicates passwords and secrets for good
The user’s individual characteristics are their identity

“Biometrics in the Cloud are the foundation for securely, reliably bridging the Human-Digital Identity divide.” Acuity MI, 2017
